An open eye holds the center of this hand-painted ceramic art plate, framed by two hands and surrounded by a densely worked circular composition. Pale linework stands out against the dark surface, revealing the contours of fingers, the detail of the iris and the fine marks that give the image its depth.
The wide, textured rim extends the composition outward through closely spaced, radiating ridges. Its gently irregular outline softens the circular form, creating a tactile frame for the intricate painting at the center. The contrast between the sculptural border and the detailed imagery gives the piece a strong presence on a shelf, console or display stand.
The Design
The eye forms the visual focal point, while the surrounding hands draw attention inward. Circular bands, geometric details and small decorative marks add layers to the composition. Fine, closely spaced strokes give the painting an engraving-like appearance, expressed here through hand-painted ceramic work.
Together, these elements suggest watchfulness, introspection and mystery. This is an aesthetic reading of the design rather than a claim about a specific religious symbol or protective meaning.
About the Maker
