Floral Tale Hand-Carved Stoneware Display Plate

Flowers traced into clay, one line at a time.

Part of the Floral Tale collection by Sanbahuo, an independent ceramic studio in Jingdezhen, these decorative stoneware plates explore the contrast between a dark, earthy clay body and delicately worked floral ornament.

Each plate begins with a handcrafted coarse-clay body whose slightly irregular surface and substantial texture are intentionally preserved. Rather than concealing the character of the clay beneath a perfectly uniform finish, the making process allows subtle traces of forming and firing to remain visible.

Fine lines are then worked into the surface with a needle-like carving tool, creating the dense linear texture that radiates across the plate. Continuous floral motifs are individually articulated around the composition, their petals defined through repeated carved lines.

Selected areas are finished with raised glaze details, introducing a subtle three-dimensional quality that can be both seen and felt. Gold-toned accents create points of warmth against the restrained black and off-white palette.

The three designs share the same material language while presenting different floral compositions—from a restrained ring of blossoms to a lighter interior framed by gold-toned petals, and a dense border of overlapping white flowers.

Because every piece is worked and fired by hand, slight differences in carving depth, glaze, color, surface texture and firing marks are natural characteristics of the work.

Designed as both an object for the table and a decorative piece for display.

Hand wash only. Clean gently with a soft sponge and mild detergent. Do not place in a dishwasher. Avoid abrasive cleaners, impact and sudden temperature changes.

Because this piece contains gold-toned decorative detailing, avoid serving very hot foods or soups. Decorative use and room-temperature or moderately warm foods are recommended.
