Collection: KAI CHUK
Guangcai is the abbreviated term for the art of overglaze enamel porcelain in the Guangzhou region. Listed on the National Intangible Cultural Heritage Register in 2008, it is a representative folk craft of Guangzhou. Reflecting the popularity of Baroque and Rococo styles in the past, Guangcai is characterised by its opulent and colourful design, which sparked a craze for Chinese-style art among Western aristocracy. With its opulent, intricate designs and vibrant colours accented with gold, Guangcai is a product of the fusion of Eastern and Western aesthetics. It not only embodies the grandeur and luxury of Western aristocratic commissions but also serves as a vital vehicle for Lingnan culture, making a significant contribution to cultural exchange between East and West.
The brand’s founder has taken particular note of the lack of artistic Guangcai pieces, as well as the absence of emotional resonance and personal expression, and has accurately defined the target market: consumers and commercial entities seeking artistic value and aesthetic appeal, with a preference for the fashion scene or New Chinese styles, and those valuing intangible cultural heritage and Cantonese culture. “Creativity is the lifeblood of our brand, and traditional Guangcai craftsmanship forms the foundation of our work.”
