竹玉窑
Three generations of porcelain practice, carried forward through hand-painted detail.
THE STUDIO
Rooted in Jingdezhen, 竹玉窑 is a family ceramics studio shaped by three generations of porcelain making. Its name brings together bamboo and jade: the quiet poise of one and the gentle lustre of the other. These qualities inform an approach to objects that values both visual refinement and everyday use.
The studio brings a contemporary perspective to inherited ceramic practices, working with hand painting and high-temperature firing. Its designs draw on established decorative traditions including blue-and-white porcelain, gucai and enamel decoration. Through patient brushwork and an attention to form, it seeks to bring the poetic character of Chinese porcelain into contemporary homes and tea rituals.
THE PRACTICE
Hand-painted porcelain is central to the studio’s work. Brushwork is developed across each ceramic form, drawing on traditional imagery and decorative techniques while allowing new designs to emerge. Variations in line and placement remain part of the character of a handmade piece.
CARE
Hand wash gently with a soft cloth or sponge, particularly on pieces with gold, silver or enamel decoration. Avoid steel wool, abrasive tools, sudden impacts and contact with hard surfaces. Follow the specific care instructions for each decorative finish.
