This is where the series begins. No.1 is the most distilled expression of what YQ Lacquer does — a slender vase at H160mm with a Ø10mm mouth, built from layers of paper, linen, and natural lacquer into a form that is light yet durable, minimal yet alive.

The technique is ancient. Paper body lacquerware — natural lacquer built over layers of paper and linen fabric — has been practised in China for centuries. YQ Lacquer in Guangzhou continues that tradition without compromise, applying each layer by hand and allowing it to cure before the next is added. The result is a surface that carries subtle tonal variations unique to each piece, and that deepens quietly over time.
